Oak Garage Kits

Standard Designs Available

We have three ranges of garages available, Standard, Medium and Long, with one, two and three bays.
All one bay garages have a gable entry design (see below the designs available), the two and three bays have the option to add a partition wall, two walls in the three bay is so desired.

We assume our frame will sit on a 225mm high dwarf wall, built by others, (we recommend this to keep the timber out of the rain splash zone) The dimensions of the garages in each range show the external and internal dimensions of the dwarf wall.

Roof pitches can be chosen as 27, 30, 35, 40, 45 or 50 degrees.  If you choose a garage from the Standard or Medium range with a roof pitch at 27 degrees, this will give a ridge height of 3.8m so, depending on roof tile choice, should be under 4m in height.

All our oak frames are braced at the front with bracing and they are set back so a door frame could be inserted later if needed.

Installation

The frames arrive on site with fully numbered components and drawings to explain where each component fits, making the installation process as easy as possible.   All the fixings you will need to install your garage to rafters are also included.

Extras

Lean-to
We can also supply a lean-to for the gable elevation.  These lean-to additions give extra covered storage for things like bins, logs, toys, bikes and garden items.  The lean-to structures are 4.5m long and designed to be positioned centrally on the gable end.  The rafters are long enough to allow the oak posts to be 1.5m from the building (external measurement).
Partition
Central partitions between bays are also available and useful if you are thinking of adding garage doors to create a secure bay. The ridge height partition is made up of an oak frame with softwood studwork (the same as the gable end) ready for cladding.
Cladding
The standard cladding is feather edged larch but you can choose feather edged oak, waney edged larch or waney edged oak.  Please ask us for a quote.
Garage Doors
Doors are vertically boarded softwood finished with a light brown Barretine stain and are supplied with standard black metal adjustable strap hinges, black metal pull handles and gatemate lock.

Advantages of Oak Garage Kits

Advantages of using our kits over a handmade building:
Time
For these less complex garage structures where the assembly is straightforward and you have the necessary carpentry skills, you can install yourself to your own schedule.
Speed of Installation
Our machined frames are quick to install as all the softwood components are already cut to length.
Budget
By offering you full control of the installation you can control your own labour and installation timescales and with the softwood components already shaped and cut to length there is no waste only offcuts when you trim the cladding to length.

If our standard machined sizes are not suitable for your needs please visit our Garages page to see examples of our bespoke work and Contact Us to discuss your project.

Important Notes

We will provide you with a block plan showing the required positions of the foundations and dwarf walls. It is really important that the walls are built within +/- 5mm tolerances in height and width.  If you are intending to fit doors it is very important that the walls are flush with the inside of the oak posts otherwise you will either have to pack out or notch your door frames.  Walls should also be level; particularly important if you are fitting doors.

It is your responsibility to check that planning permission is not required.  In conservation areas, in the grounds of listed buildings and on other protected land such as AONB, planning permission may be required regardless of ridge height.  In some cases permitted development rights have been removed from some properties too so it is always best to check with your Local Authority in writing if unsure.

It is also your responsibility to check if Building Regulations approval is needed.  This will depend on both building footprint, use type and proximity to boundaries and buildings.  We advise you check with your Local Authority. In some cases, depending on location, fire safety is a consideration.  Please check with Building Control to see if you need to comply.
